KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 21, 2016:
The federal government should use the RM1.1 billion grant it awarded to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) to fund Public Service Department (JPA) scholarships.
PKR’s Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak should order the transfer as the public funds should not be financing 1MDB.
Rafizi, who is also PKR’s secretary-general and a vice-president, said this in regards to reports that the government would suspend JPA scholarships due to falling government revenue.
“The PM should instruct 1MDB to return the federal grant worth RM1.1 billion it took for the upgrading of the army base in Bandar Malaysia.
“That is 1MDB’s responsibility and should not involve public funds,” he said in a statement.
He said issues regarding allocation cuts for students was not something new.
“I have been asking questions about scholarships and allocations by Mara since June 2015 but they were never answered.
“The outcome is before the issue of scholarship cuts, thousands of students who tried to get scholarships have been rejected.”
