KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 20, 2016:
Pokok Sena’s PAS MP Datuk Mahfuz Omar said Kedah Umno’s announcement of no confidence in Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir was “inappropriate”.
He said this was because the state was celebrating the 88th birthday of the Kedah Sultan, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah.
“Their actions will only ruin the celebrations and will change the mood from happiness to weariness.
“I do not deny their right to do so, but they should have picked a better time.
“Kedah Umno should have waited for the celebrations of the Sultan’s birthday to be over as a sign of respect,” he said in a statement.
He said the move by Umno Kedah clearly proved that none among Umno deserved the Menteri Besar post.
“Umno can changeits state chief but it’s inappropriate for them to stir up issues about the MB post after the Sultan had expressed his support for Mukhriz as the MB.
“Their action is an insult to the Sultan.”
Earlier today, Umno Kedah had asked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to make a change to the leadership, held by Mukhriz.
