KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 20, 2016:
Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman Datuk Hasan Arifin says he is concerned that the panel would not be able to prepare the final summary of the probe into 1Malaysia Development Berhad by March this year.
He said this was because there were still many matters that needed to be looked into more deeply to produce a detailed report based on the proceedings.
Hasan said the panel had also decided to recall former 1MDB CEO Datuk Shahrul Azral Ibrahim Halmi to answer more questions.
He added Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh, who was former 1MDB chairman, would also be called in to attend a hearing although he had held the post for only two months.
Hasan said the two individuals would be given two-weeks notice to attend the hearing soon, but did not disclose the actual dates.
He added the proceedings involving the two would be carried out before March.
“We will be calling them both (Shahrul and Bakke) to obtain more details,” he told a Press conference after chairing a hearing with 1MDB chairman Tan Sri Lodin Wok Kamaruddin at Parliament, here, today.
“The proceedings will go on and we will try to finish it by March although there are many matters that need to be studied.
“We will not be influenced by social media within or outside the country as the report is based on what was released by the Auditor-General and through the proceedings.
“But we will do the best that we can to prepare it by then (March),” he added.
Earlier Lodin said he hoped that investigations into the Finance-Ministry owned investment arm would come to a conclusion soon.
He said this was because he had answered all questions posed to him by the PAC panel.
“They were tough questions but I managed to answer them, I am hoping that they will wrap up the investigation soon,” Lodin told reporters briefly after the proceedings ended.
On the proceeding with Lodin, Hasan said the 1MDB chairman had given full cooperation during two days of questioning.
“Whether it was satisfactory is really up to the panel and not me alone, but he gave really good cooperation to us,” Hasan said
