Malaysians in Indonesia are advised to be extra vigilant and to closely monitor as well as follow instructions issued by the Indonesian authorities in the wake of the spate of bombings in the country’s capital yesterday.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement today also confirmed that no Malaysians were affected in the incident thus far.
“The Embassy of Malaysia in Jakarta continues to monitor the developments closely and in close contact with the Indonesian authorities,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, it added that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had spoken to Indonesian president Joko Widodo yesterday to convey his deepest sympathies and condolences to Indonesia on the tragic incident.
“The Government of Malaysia condemns the bomb attacks that hit Jakarta on Jan 14, which caused the loss of innocent lives, injuries and damage to properties,” the ministry added.
Several explosions rocked Jakarta yesterday at the Sarinah shopping mall, with reports of gunfire taking place between police and what was said to be a local terrorist group.
