“If there is any quarter that is not qualified to speak on fighting for Malays and Islam, it is Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN),” said Parti Amanah Negara communications director Khalid Abdul Samad.
Khalid said this in response to a statement by Cheras Umno division chief Datuk Seri Syed Ali Alhabshee who said that Pakatan Harapan (PH) was unable to fight for the position of Malays and Islam in the country.
Khalid explained that Umno was given the chance to rule in Malaysia for almost 60 years and it was proven that the party had failed and was unable to build the strength of the Malays.
“Malays are left to their culture of receiving aid and that is what Umno wants because otherwise it will lose its relevance and Umno refuses to see the Malays independent and become a race with dignity.
“From this perspective they have succeeded because the Malays are the receivers of BR1M and the ones who get the most help, and this is what we want to break.
“The way to break it is by putting a stop to the culture of dependency because it comes with its own system that is a select group of people as cronies and other contractors depend on those cronies, eventually stunting the growth of Malays,” he told The Rakyat Post.
The Shah Alam Member of Parliament added that Umno was not only unable to protect the position of Malays but was also the main reason for the divide among Malays.
He said PAS, PKR, Parti Negara and Semangat 46 were splinter parties from Umno that was the result of a leadership that was not trustworthy.
“Malays were divided because there was misappropriation, misuse of power, use of position for personal gain in Umno that led to Malays being disunited.
“That’s why those who leave Umno is due to the signs of disagreement.”
