KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 11, 2016:
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is shocked that two Malaysians had been identified as suicide bombers who died in the Middle East last week and said this was “un-Islamic” behaviour.
“Shocked that suicide bombers who killed over 30 in Iraq & Syria reported to be Malaysian.
“These acts are unIslamic & are condemned by all Malaysians,” he tweeted this evening.
Najib was alluding to reports that two Malaysians, members of Islamic State (IS), killed themselves and 30 others in two separate suicide missions in Syria and Iraq last week.
According to the New Straits Times (NST), one of them was reported to be Mohd Amirul Ahmad Rahim, 26, from Terengganu, who set off bombs strapped to him as well as in the car he was in during clashes in Raqqa, Syria, on Dec 29, 2015.
The other Malaysian was Mohamad Syazwan Mohd Salim, from Selangor, who blew himself up on Jan 3 in Tikrit, Iraq, targeting a large group of police forces undergoing training.
