KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 11, 2016:The decision by Vida Beauty Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Hasmiza Othman to sponsor the Kelantan team and the move by Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar to donate RM50 million to the Johor football team are positive developments for the Malaysian football industry. Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the scenario was unique and showed that there was value in the local sports scene. He hoped that many more companies would take up sponsorship opportunities, not just for football but also other sports. “What’s important is I am impressed and it is certain that the Johor Sultan loves his state and Dr Vida made a corporate decision. “It is very positive for sports because we always see sponsorship for international leagues, but now there is also value in local leagues.” Khairy spoke to reporters after chairing the Umno Youth Exco meeting at Menara Dato Onn here today. Khairy said the decision by Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim to act as the owner of Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), making it a football club, was appropriate. He explained that Tunku Ismail had freed the Johor Football Association of administration and developed football in Johor. “What was done was extremely appropriate with modern football, whereby it is no longer under the state but is now a club.”
