BESUT, Jan 10, 2016:

Science laboratories in 502 secondary schools nationwide would be upgraded and equipped with sophisticated equipment to help students excel in science subjects, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said today.

The move, he said, was to provide the schools with mobile and flexible science laboratories.

He said the laboratories at seven of the schools had been renovated and upgraded.

They are at Sekolah Menengah Agama Sultan Hisamuddin, Sungai Bertih, Klang; Sekokah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil Dengkil, Selangor; Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama (SMKA) Nurul Ittifaq, Besut, SMKA Wataniah, Besut; Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tengku Mahmud 2, Besut; SMK Pelagat, Besut and SMK Wakuba, Tawau, Sabah, he told reporters after the handing over of the science laboratory to SMK Tengku Mahmud 2 near here today.

Also present were the Higher Education Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zaini Ujang, Higher Education Department director-general Datuk Prof Dr Asma Ismail, Terengganu Education director Shafruddin Ali Hussin and SMK Tengku Mahmud 2 principal Che Zainon Che Salleh.

He said the science laboratories, costing RM162,700 each, were built under the National Blue Ocean Strategy and the Joint Initiative Programme of the Higher Education and Education Ministries.

“These science laboratories meet the needs for learning of science and mathematics and can also serve as a meeting room.”
