“Suggestions to place Malay DAP candidates on PKR and Amanah tickets is something that Dapsy will refuse to comply with.”
That was the reaction of DAP Socialist Youth Publicity executive secretary Muhammad Shakir Ameer in regards to the suggestion by Johor Amanah deputy chief Zulkefly Ahmad that DAP should not contest Malay Muslim candidates in the Johor state assembly during the next general election.
Muhammad Shakir said that decisions in regards to election nominations were the prerogative of DAP’s leadership and were not based on religion or race, but based on the quality of the candidates along with their own strategies.
He further said that DAP would always maintain its principles aside from curbing the negative perceptions that Malay voters had on the party.
“As a compatriot in Pakatan Harapan (PH), we advise that Zulkefly should not fall prey to the political game of racism and religious prejudice which is often used by PAS and Umno.
“The aspect of religion and race in politics are still the main factor of our country’s political weaknesses because it allows pro-Umno media and their allies to manipulate it,” he said in a statement today.
According to Muhammad Shakir, DAP became the ”scapegoat” as its principles prioritize freedom, equality, social justice and solidarity which challenged the domination of Umno BN’s racist and religious politics.
“We would also like to advise Zulkefly that religious politics abuse by PAS leaders was what led to the establishment of Amanah.
“Dapsy is hoping that mutual understanding and political cooperation with Pakatan Harapan will be considered as a new beginning based on mature political understandings to alter our existing politics for the benefit of our people.”
