KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 9, 2016:
Two people were killed and eight more injured when a bus they were in crashed and flipped at Km43, Assam Jawa, Kuala Selangor, early this morning.
In the 5am incident, the bus carrying 47 passengers and one driver veered off the road before flipping into a drain.
Sources say the chartered bus was en route from Pasar Seni, Kuala Lumpu, to the Bagan Datoh Jeti in Teluk Intan, Perak.
The passengers on board are believed to be Indonesian citizens.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Mohd Sani Harul said: “Two engines from the Kuala Selangor and Tanjung Karang Fire and Rescue Department rushed to the scene of the incident to assist in saving the victims and extracting two trapped victims.
“All the injured victims were sent to Hospital Tanjung Karang and Sungai Buloh for treatment,” he said.
Sani said that 22 other passengers sustained minor injuries, while 16 others, including the bus driver, escaped unhurt.
Meanwhile, Kuala Selangor police chief Supt Ruslan Abdullah said the case will be investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
