BATU PAHAT, Jan 1, 2016:
A man was burned to death while 21 other passengers were injured after a collision involving an express bus and a passenger car at Km124.5 (south-bound) of the North-South Expressway near Yong Peng here on Thursday night.
The dead victim was in a Perodua Myvi car. The bus was also damaged by the fire in the 8.45pm incident.
A Johor Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said firemen from the Yong Peng fire station were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 8.53pm.
“Upon arrival, the team found the car already enveloped in flames, while the express bus was also burned,” said the spokesperson.
The spokesperson said that all 21 passengers of the express bus, consisting of 14 men and seven women, fled to safety.
“The victims only suffered minor injuries. However, the male driver of the Perodua Myvi car died.”
At press time, operations to clear the accident scene were still on-going.
All the victims have since been brought to the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital in Batu Pahat for treatment.
