KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 27, 2015:
The issue of the Kedah state government asking a developer to “fix” a crucifix-shaped rooftop at a housing project in the state is the act of an irresponsible party that wanted to create tensions in the country.
Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng said the party which spread the picture was visually challenged as he or she was unable to differentiate between a Christian cross symbol from a building structure.
He said the structure became a cross symbol merely from a visual point of view.
“They try to raise the issue and it seems like they have their own agenda in expanding the matter even further.
“I also read on Facebook that the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is also similarly shaped like the crucifix.
“That does not mean that we have to demolish KLIA because one party alleged that it was a crucifix. This is looking for trouble.”
Recently, the Kedah state government had asked a housing development company in Langkawi to rectify the structure of the rooftops to prevent the issue from being prolonged.
The Exco member in charge of housing, Datuk Tajul Urus Mat Zain, said he viewed the matter seriously and hoped the party involved would provide cooperation.
“I asked the developer to solve the problem so that the shape of the crucifix would not be visible on the rooftops.
“I do not want this to be prolonged as it is a sensitive issue involving religion.
“The developer must ensure that it is rectified.” he was quoted as telling Sinar Harian.
