JERUSALEM, Dec 26, 2015:
A desperate gambler drowning in debt took the extreme measure of allegedly attempting to sell his baby for £18,000 (RM114,600) to settle his debt.
The unnamed man, in his thirties, claimed he never intended to go through with the sale of his 3-month-old daughter, insisting the offer was a ploy to generate money.
His 27-year-old wife, also not named, was detained by police but authorities said the extent of her involvement in the scheme remained unclear.
She has been placed under house arrest, according to a report in the Independent.
Police here nabbed the suspect after an undercover cop who posed as a potential buyer met him on several occasions to purportedly arrange the sale, the report added.
