KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 14, 2015:

The MIC faction aligned to former president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel has alleged that a Registrar of Societies (RoS) letter sent to the party early this year was drafted by the opposing faction.

Former MIC strategic director K. Ramalingam today revealed that the letter, dated Jan 6, 2015, sent by the RoS was addressed to the MIC secretary-general following complaints filed over disagreements between the factions led by Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam and Palanivel.

The letter was in regards to the notice issued by RoS against the MIC earlier and it also called for branch, division and national disputes to be settled by certain specified dates. It also stated that no appeals would be entertained.

Ramalingam said he had come into possession of an email sent to several people on Jan 5, 2015 and it contained the draft of the ROS letter.

He alleged that MIC senator Datuk S.A. Vigneswaran received the letter from his lawyer and he then sent the draft letter to several people, including an officer with the ROS.

“The draft was sent by him on Jan 5 and the next day, ROS sent a letter to the MIC which was almost the same.”

He questioned why the letter was in the possession of someone outside the ROS and wondered whether the investigations conducted by RoS can now be seen as fair.

Ramalingam said it looked as though the RoS letter was drafted by someone outside the department.

“We have lodged numerous police reports on this matter and we will also be writing to the RoS for an explanation.

“We will also lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission on the matter.”

He added that in light of this new “evidence”, he would be filing for a judicial review of the court cases that they had earlier lost.

Ramalingam also denied suggestions that his faction was trying to use this as a bargaining chip to secure more favourable terms for reconciliation.

He said they now had the upper hand.
