KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12, 2015:
Kedah will declare tomorrow (Dec 13) a public holiday if the state’s football team were to defeat Selangor at the Malaysia Cup final match tonight.
This was announced by Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir in a statement today, stating that the matter had been discussed by the state council and was presented to the Kedah regency council.
The public holiday will be granted in accordance with the 1951 Holidays Act. For workers who still need to report for duty, employers must adhere to payment of salary and overtime allowances as stipulated in the 1955 Labour Act.
“However, employers may choose to replace tomorrow’s public holiday with another day, subject to the laws under the relevant Act,” Mukhriz said.
Kedah is set to meet Selangor tonight at the Shah Alam Stadium.
This will be Kedah’s 11th appearance in the Malaysia Cup final after defeating Felda United in the semi-finals with a 4-3 aggregate.
Selangor, meanwhile, is out to take home the cup for the 33rd time after defeating Pahang in the semi-finals with a 2-0 aggregate.
This will also be the second time both teams are in the finals together after 2008 when Kedah defeated Selangor 3-2.
