KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 11, 2015:
With one vice-president chair at a press conference held today being empty, the two others present dismissed the matter.
Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, the two out of three Umno vice-presidents, said it was not the seat at the press conference that mattered.
“The seat next to Zahid is filled on stage and I see no problems at all.
“On stage is more important than in the PC. When the third person is on stage, there is no awkwardness as predicted by many reporters,” Hishammuddin said when asked to comment on the matter, referring to the third veep, Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.
The two at the press conference for the 2015 Umno General Assembly at the Putra World Trade Centrehere today, obliged clarifications sought on the issue of the RM2.6 billion political donation and comments made by former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Umno president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Ahmad Zahid said the reason he said there were “donors” in plural was because he met with more than one person who represented the “donor”.
“I think the matter was explained by SPRM (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) as an official statement.
“Let the matter be explained when a detailed report is released by SPRM,” he added.
On Dr Mahathir, Ahmad Zahid said it was up to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to decide whether any action would be taken against him over comments that Najib should be investigated under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA) and allegations in his blog recently that Najib bribed him.
