KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 11, 2015:
Umno leaders and members who speak like the Opposition should not remain in the party, said Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
As members of the party, they should be more disciplined and confident with the explanation that was given, and not criticise the party from outside. She said those who were unhappy with the leadership should contest for posts at the next party elections.
“If they continue to speak out and act otherwise, I do not know why they are still in the party. I am confused. If not happy with the party, just leave.
“Anyone in the party, no matter what position, must not sound like the Opposition and still claim to be a party member. Please act like a ‘gentleman’ and leave.
“Our loyalty is to the party. That’s what we learned over the years. I would obey instructions from the leaders and the party.
“We, as members, must never give chance for opponents to strike,” she told reporters at the 2015 Umno General Assembly at the Putra World Trade Center here today.
Commenting on the attacks made by former party president Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad against Datuk Seri Najib Razak, she said the former was free to speak what he believed in as this was a free country.
“But to me, anyone who wants to say something should be careful not to incite or slander. Anyone can make all sorts of claims.
“In my opinion, Najib had clarified about 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Berhad) and the RM2.6 billion political donation in his speech. He also urged Dr Mahathir to look forward, or else how are we to deal with the upcoming election,” she added.
