KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10, 2015:
Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Chua Tee Yong has lodged a police report after a non-government organisation is learnt to have used his name to collect funds.
Chua said he only knew of the incident after a chief executive officer of a local bank contacted him last Tuesday informing him that a cheque under his wife’s name was ready for collection.
“I was shocked. Both my wife and I never asked the bank to prepare such cheque and we don’t even know the NGO which has been using our names for their purpose,” said Chua after filing his report at Dang Wangi police station here today.
It is learned that a cheque amounting to RM30,000 is for an Thalassemia NGO, was requested on Dec 3.
The Labis MP also said that the bank had received a call from a woman claiming to be his wife requesting the cheque to be prepared once it is approved.
“This is a scam to tarnish the image of me and my wife,” said Chua.
Meanwhile, Dang Wangi deputy police chief Habibi Majinji confirmed the case.
