KUALA LUMPUR,Dec 9, 2015:
Former Umno president Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the party’s current deputy president and one of its vice-presidents Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal respectively were today urged to reunite with Umno and its cause or face the possibility of the government being taken over by DAP.
This call was made by Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.
She was commenting on the trio who were currently the focus of the party as they were presumed to be moving away from Umno’s views.
“I ask with all due respect to Tan Sri Muhyiddin, Datuk Seri Shafie and to our dearly respected ‘father’, Tun Mahathir, to move together with Umno, be together with Umno, as there is no other party like it.
“Want to hand over the Malays and Bumiputeras to DAP?
“I will not stand for it. To my last drop of blood, we will not let DAP control our nation.
“If Umno is weak, DAP will take over, God protect us” she said during her closing speech at the Wanita Umno assembly today.
The speech was met with applause from Wanita delegates gathered at the Merdeka hall.
Earlier today, Muhyiddin, accompanied by his wife, visit the assembly of the three party wings, Wanita, Youth and Puteri, his first appearance at this year’s Umno general assembly.
Dr Mahathir, Muhyiddin and Shafie were previously loud in criticising the leadership of Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak, particularly on the controversy involving the Finance Ministry-owned investment fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and the RM2.6 billion political donation to Najib’s account.
On Monday, Muhyiddin, together with Dr Mahathir, made speeches at the Sultan Sulaiman Club in Kampung Baru here, discussing these controversial issues while urging Najib to take a leave of absence as the president and Prime Minister to make way for investigations on the matters.
Following the incident, the trio face the possibility of being brought before Umno’s disciplinary board.
Therefore, Shahrizah hoped that party members as well as leaders would remain unified under the Malay-based party.
“Let us pray that the leaders will come back to us under one unified Umno, God willing.
“We are clear, our leaders, we have never gone against Datuk Seri Najib, we support Tan Sri Muhyiddin as the deputy president, we support the Deputy Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi).
“We accept Datuk Seri Najib’s decision as it was the decision of the Prime Minister when he wanted to change his Deputy Prime Minister.”
Wanita Umno today completed its annual assembly with the attendance of 983 delegates from 191 divisions from across the country.
