KULAIJAYA, Dec 7, 2015:

The Johor state administrative capital of Nusajaya will be known as Iskandar Puteri starting next year, following a name change.

Two other districts in the states will also be renamed, with Ledang known as Tangkak and Kulaijaya just referred to as Kulai.

Johor state secretary Datuk Ismail Karim said the Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar had consented to these name changes.

“The state government has approved the name changes and is now in the process of having them gazetted.

“The name changes are expected to take effect in January next year,” he said today.

Ismail was speaking at a press conference after the Malaysian School Bus Association’s annual general meeting here.

He said even though the name of a village or place sounded strange, it should be retained because the name was given by ancestors and had historical value.

The state ruler also said the state government should think of a suitable name for Nusajaya because the name had no local meaning or value.
