KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4, 2015:
Hundreds of customers were evacuated from the Ikea outlet in Cheras this evening following what they believed was a fire drill exercise.
No reasons were cited for asking customers to vacate the premise at 5.30pm today but anxious customers took to social media to share updates on the disruptive development, which had caught them off guard.
Some users on Twitter said the evacuation was part of a fire drill exercise.
Barney Low, 40, who was shopping in the complex said he was already lining up at the cashier when he was told to leave through the designated fire exits.
“I had just came to check out the new complex.
“I’m annoyed by this as I had lined up for quite some time before we had to leave everything behind and head to the exits.
“Now I can’t even get access to my car,” he said when contacted today.
At press time, The Rakyat Post was unable to reach any officials from the Swedish Furniture Giant’s management to confirm the “incident”.
A netizen, with the Twitter handle @Syuenily, said; “Came to ikea Cheras for less than 20 mins, kena emergency drill, very happy, very lucky,”
@HerNameIsFie said; “we’ve been told that we have to exit the building because it was on fire. Last-last latihan *****?
Another user @Nurhanisjasmin said; “Went to Ikea Cheras and they had technical problems and all of us have to get out from the place.”
Last month Malaysians came in droves for the opening of the new Ikea outlet in Jalan Cochrane, Cheras.
The Ikea Cheras grand opening, dubbed as “Malaysia’s Biggest Housewarming Party” drew an estimated 3,000 people.
