KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3, 2015:
Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament Nurul Izzah Anwar can bring the eldest daughter of the Lahad Datu intrusion leader, Jacel Kiram, and former Philippine President Joseph Estrada as her witnesses.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said they could support Nurul Izzah’s claims when facing the Rights and Privileges Committee.
“I’ve been saying this – the motion that we carried is actually a proposal to give Lembah Pantai MP a chance to defend herself and bring witnesses to inform the Rights and Privileges Committee of what happened, such as the programme’s financier, tours and others.
“Maybe she (Nurul Izzah) can bring Estrada or the princess (Jacel) herself as a witness,” Azalina told reporters at the Parliament lobby here.
Azalina explained that the opportunity given in the Dewan Rakyat was not to answer and explain as was the recent case of DAP’s Gelang Patah Member of Parliament Lim Kit Siang’s suspension.
“The Committee will decide whether to mete out a punishment or accept her (Nurul Izzah) explanation. This is not like the case of Gelang Patah MP, whom we gave six months (suspension). The sentence is left to the committee,” she said.
