KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 1, 2015:

Whether or not former Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail will be called to have his statement recorded depends on the police, says Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed.

“The question to call Gani up depends on police investigations. I cannot explain this here,” Nur Jazlan told Parliament today.

He was speaking in response to Gobind Singh Deo (DAP-Puchong) who questioned whether the government will call up Abdul Gani to assist with investigations into the murder of Deputy District Prosecutor Datuk Anthony Kevin Morais.

Gobind had posed the question as it had been alleged that the case involved a major personality.

The issue arose following a statutory declaration by the deceased’s brother, Charles Suresh Morais, who claimed to be in possession of a pen drive sent by Anthony Kevin before the latter was murdered.

Charles Suresh alleged, during a press conference, that his brother’s death had to do with the latter’s work on the charge sheet for a “senior government official”.

Charles Suresh fled the country on Wednesday via Johor Baru after signing the statutory declaration at the office of his lawyer, Americk Sidhu, in Kuala Lumpur.

An army pathologist and six others have been charged before the Kuala Lumpur magistrate’s court for the murder.
