KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30, 2015:
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) said investigation into 1 Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) is ongoing with statements given by former president / chief executive officer (CEO) of 1MDB, Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi, over a period of two days.
PAC chairman Datuk Hasan Arifin said Shahrol had cooperated satisfactorily and answered all questions put to him.
Similarly all PAC members had the opportunity to ask questions on all aspects of management control governance in 1MDB.
This is based on information that PAC obtained from Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Irwan Serigar Abdullah and Economic Planning Unit (EPU) director-general Datuk Seri Dr Rahmat Bivi Abdullah.
A preliminary report on 1MDB and findings by the Auditor-General had also been submitted.
“PAC had been informed that the Auditor-General’s final report on 1MDB will be completed and submitted to PAC for presentation on Dec 17.
“Investigation into 1MDB will continue tomorrow with the testimony of president / CEO of 1MDB, Arul Kanda Kandasamy.
“Following this, 1MDB chairman Tan Sri Lodin Wok will give his statement to PAC after hearing the Auditor-General’s final report regarding 1MDB,” he said in a press statement today.
PAC stressed the priority of the committee is to conduct a fair and thorough investigation of 1MDB.
The full report on 1MDB is targeted for completion in March 2016.
In addition, PAC said there is need for the National Audit Department to re-audit the four incinerator plants in Tioman, Pangkor, Langkawi and Cameron Highlands, even though the PAC had presented a report on Incinerator Plant Management in Nov 2014.
This is due to the lack of a final resolution from the ministry and it is important in terms of the environment and tourism industry as all the incinerator plants are located in the popular tourist areas.
