KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26, 2015:
PKR vice-president Tian Chua said the Sabah state assembly had jumped the gun on its decision today to bar him and fellow vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar from entering the state.
He claimed the assembly’s actions were akin to the misuse of power that clearly did not take into account the due processes that were needed before handing out punishment.
“It’s clear that this is an abuse of power in terms of procedures as it did not give the opportunity to those involved to explain the situation.
“And this is also jumping the gun. What’s the purpose of calling Nurul Izzah under Sosma (Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2013) when we have not been investigated?
“It’s clear that the action was taken based on an allegation by a minister who had called me a mastermind behind the meeting.
“The BN assemblymen had made a decision on the punishment. This shows that they did not follow the rightful process themselves,” he told reporters when met at the Parliament lobby here today.
Tian Chua, who is the Batu MP, and Nurul Izzah, the MP for Lembah Pantai, were barred after the latter posed for a photograph with self-styled Sulu Princess Jacel Kiram on Nov 9 in the Philippines.
Tian Chua was also on the same trip, though the two have said they did not arrange a meeting with Jacel and were all simply guests invited to the same event.
However, the incident drew ire and negative reactions from the public who believed that it showed disregard for the Lahad Datu Incursion in 2013 in which a number of members from Malaysian security forces were killed by Sulu terrorists.
