KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25, 2015:

Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has backtracked after saying earlier today that media coverage would be severely limited during the upcoming Umno general assembly, scheduled for December.

Ku Nan, as he is widely known, said the matter was still under discussion and no decision has been made though various media outlets reported him as saying earlier that the decision was made to stop them from “spinning” stories.

“Who said the media can’t cover it? I never said that. I said I have not decided because the problem now is you guys (the media).

“If we open it up for coverage you like to pick up things and spin against us.

“So I do not want that to happen. enough. If you do not spin and behave well, I can also open it up for you to cover.

“This is a problem will all of you. Wait and it will be decided,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby here.

Earlier today, he had told reporters at the Parliament lobby as well that there would be no media coverage of the debates at the 2015 Umno General Assembly.

Instead, said Tengku Adnan, two party vice-presidents, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, will hold a press conference to discuss what happened in the assembly.

“You (media) always take one line which the person doesn’t mean to mean as such and it will affect religion and race which is what we do not like,” he said.
