KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 19, 2015:
There will be no motion urging Prime Minister and Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak to step down during the 2016 Umno annual general assembly (AGM) next month.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the party headquarters had received 738 proposals of which 513 were being scrutinised.
Another 225 proposals were accepted without debate, out of which 132 expressed support for Najib’s leadership.
“As chairman of AGM motions, I can confirm that here is no such proposal (for Najib to resign).
“There is no need to submit proposals to support the motion.
“What is important is whether the divisions are in support of a no confidence vote against Najib,” he said.
It was previously reported that some party branches had urged Najib to resign.
The actions of 10 Umno branch chiefs in Sepang were similar to that of 13 out of the 54 branch chiefs in Telok Kemang.
Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said Umno would carry out an investigation to identify the masterminds behind the acts.
“We will investigate and see whether the problem had been created by the troublemakers who want to weaken the party, which is intact and strong at the moment.
“We have no problems. We have more than 25,000 branches. Even these 30 branches, we do not know those behind the action.
“As party secretary, I will investigate,” Tengku Adnan said.
