KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18, 2015:

Around 300 taxi drivers who gathered at Padang Merbok from 9am marched to Parliament to hand over a memorandum.

Participants of the rally, from 27 taxi organisations around Klang Valley, handed over a memorandum to voice their objections over the Uber phone application and the failure of SPAD to meet their (taxi drivers’) demands.

The march towards Parliament was led by Klang Valley Taxi Driver Action Committee supervisor Kamarudin Mohd Hussain, who led the 300 drivers to hand over the memorandum to the Prime Minister and the Opposition leader Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

As of 12.30pm, the situation in Padang Merbok was under control and traffic police were controlling the areas around Jalan Berjasa.

Taxis were parked all along Jalan Berjasa.

Protesters brought banners and shouted “Hidup pemandu teksi” (“Long live taxi drivers”) and “Bantah Uber” (“Say no to Uber”).

The rally was expected to continue until 5pm
