KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 14, 2015:
After the denial by Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom on the misuse of funds from Yayasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Islam Malaysia (Yapeim), National Oversight and Whistle-blower (NOW) director Akmal Nasir again brought up inconsistencies between the foundation approval papers and invoices.
Akmal also questioned the rational of organising the “Simposium Perkahwinan dan Kekeluargaan” that cost more than RM500,000 when only 100 people participated, amounting to an average of RM5,900 a person.
He said Jamil Khir had yet to give any explanation regarding claims that money was also spent on funding a delegation’s shopping trip to buy branded goods in the US for four days.
“According to the proof of the YaPEIM approval documents, was it true that RM590,000 was used just to organise a course and did not mention anything about the Mid West Game tournament where the money was used to pay for his golf games?
“Does this money have anything to do with the golf event that he took part in? If not where is the proof?” asked Akmal in a statement today.
Yesterday, Jamil Khir denied all allegations describing them as “evil lies” aimed at destroying his credibility and name as a minister.
He also demanded that Akmal apologise within 24 hours or face legal action.
Taking notice of the demand for an apology and refusing to apologise, Akmal instead asked why the expenditure was not used from the minister’s allocation.
“If his trip to US was an official trip as a minister, why was the money used from YaPEIM when he has a minister’s allocation?”
