KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13, 2015:
Perkasa’s recent statement that “Chinese and Indians are immigrants, whether we like it or not” is extremely nonsensical, MCA says.
The party’s Youth secretary-general Datuk Leong Kim Soon, in a statement, said the remarks by the Malay right wing group’s publicity chief Hassan Basri had not only deeply hurt the feelings of Chinese and Indians, but had also insulted the spirit of “1Malaysia”.
1Malaysia is a motto espoused by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak that revolves around racial unity.
“In addition, he (Hassan) has been extremely rude in repeatedly emphasising that the two races are ‘immigrants’, oblivious to the feelings of those concerned,” Leong said.
He said strictly speaking, each and every racial community was made up of immigrants at one point, but a few generations later Chinese and Indians and all other Malaysians were born and bred here.
Najib, he added, had also declared that no Malaysian should be labelled an immigrant and had openly demanded Perkasa to tone down its words.
“Does Perkasa and Hassan think that they are more powerful than the Prime Minister, so much so that they do not feel the need to adhere to his directive?”
Hassan, had a few days ago said that the pendatang term was an “annoying perception” that non-Malays had to deal with and that MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam’s call for the slur to be banned was shallow as the latter was attempting to rewrite history.
