KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11, 2015:

Two siblings detained by the police to help investigate the death of their 63-year-old mother in an apartment in Bandar Pemaisuri, Cheras, will be held on remand until next Tuesday.

Cheras police chief ACP Chong Kok Sin said the two suspects, aged 22 and 25, were believed to be suffering from instability due to mental illness.

“They will undergo a psychiatric examination for follow-up treatment,” he said in a statement today.

In the 3pm incident on Nov 10, the body of the victim, Wan Yah Wan Mat, was discovered inside the apartment along with the two suspects who are students at local public universities.

It is believed that their mother tried to break up a fight between them before she died.

Preliminary investigations determined that the victim, who resides in Tumpat, Kelantan, suffered injuries to parts of her torso, with bruises on her eyes and mouth, had traces of blood from her nose as well as injuries to the back of the head.

The victim’s body was sent to Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HUKM) for a post-mortem and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
