KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3, 2015:

Puchong Member of Parliament Gobind Singh Deo has filed a motion for Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia to set aside the six-month suspension against Gelang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang.

He said this was because Lim should have been referred to a task force first before having the suspension meted out against him.

Gobind said this was in line with section 80 (A) of the Parliamentary Standing Order, in which the case needed to be referred to a Rights Task Force (Jawatankuasa Hak), as part of the procedure for suspension.

“”But the Speaker (on Oct 21) had allowed the motion (to suspend Lim) to be tabled, which led to the six-month suspension,

“If we look at the standing order under section 80 (a), it is clear that if one was accused of uttering or acting in contempt of the meeting, then he should be referred to a task force which is needed to investigate the matter,” he told a press conference in Parliament today.

Gobind said this needed to be done first, along with recommendations for punishment before a motion to suspend the individual was tabled.

He said he was expecting to receive a response on the motion from Pandikar next week.

Gobind when asked, added that he would exhaust all domestic remedies to address the issue before considering other options such as legal action.
