KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31, 2015:
The 3L Syndrome – ‘Lupa, Leka dan Lalai’ – which refers to the forgetful, careless and negligent attitudes of the public, is among the major contributors to fires during festival periods.
Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department Director Khirudin Drahman said the public should be aware of the need to prevent tragedies which caused loss of lives and damage to property.
“Fire prevention is a joint responsibility and not just that of the fire department. The 3L element is usually the cause for these tragedies,” he told reporters after the launch of the Fire Safety Campaign in conjunction with Deepavali 2015 by Special Envoy for Infrastructure to India and South Asia Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu here today.
Khirudin said he hoped there would be a reduction in the number of fires in Kuala Lumpur this year with the proactive fire awareness and safety campaign for the benefit of the community.
“Through campaigns such as this, we are able to meet with the community and distribute leaflets…and through the mass media, TV and radio, we can remind them to prevent fires,” he said.
Also present was Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz.
