KUALA LUMPUR Oct 29, 2015:
Tony Pua should resign as a member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), says Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.
According to him, the resignation is necessary to avoid conflict of interest as the investigation into 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) is still ongoing.
“There will be a conflict of interest because PAC is still investigating, so he can’t engage in a debate, it is that simple.
“It is good (proposed debate between Tony Pua and 1MDB president Arul Kanda Kandasamy).
“He (Tony Pua) should resign (as a member of the PAC) because he cannot remain as a member of the PAC as he is one of the investigators (1MDB case). So, it’s not right.
“He needs to be neutral, so he must resign and then debate with Arul,” said the Padang Rengas Member of Parliament when met at the Parliament lobby today.
Earlier today, Arul, who is 1MDB president, issued a statement saying he was ready to accept the challenge by Pua to appear in a live television programme to discuss 1MDB issues.
Arul is also ready to accept any question about 1MDB provided Pua is willing to resign from the PAC.
“He has to quit PAC and debate, as PAC is still investigating. You can’t debate while still a member of PAC,” said Nazri.
Pua, who is also Petaling Jaya Utara Member of Parliament had challenged Arul to agree to the live television programme interview to discuss 1MDB issues which had not yet been clarified.
