KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26, 2016:
Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed has rubbished rumours that Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin would be barred from officiating the general assemblies of the party’s wings.
In a report by SInar Harian, the supreme council member went on to advise Umno members to ignore such talk.
“It is just rumours so treat it as such,” the Malay daily quoted the International Trade and Industry Minister as saying after meeting with Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir yesterday.
There has been speculation the former Deputy Prime Minister would be barred from officiating the assemblies in December following his views on national sovereign fund, 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
Traditionally, the party’s deputy president would officiate the Umno Youth, Puteri Umno and Wanita Umno assemblies.
Mukhriz too played down the rumours, stating such talk were unfounded.
“We hear of it, but there is nothing concrete,” he was quoted as saying.
