KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21, 2015:
DAP’s Tony Pua said a racist Tweet – the image of which was circulating widely on WhatsApp – purportedly made by him was fake and the “amateur work” of thugs.
The Petaling Jaya Utara lawmaker had allegedly tweeted:
“The Indians really behave like thugs and act like Pariah! i will not be threathen by them!”
Pua, however in a statement, pointed out that the Tweet was clearly fake as the time stamp next to every tweet had been removed.
In addition, he said he would like to think that he would not misspell “threaten”, nor would he be grammatically wrong when it should be “threatened”.
“Regardless, I have never used the word ‘pariah’ to describe anyone and I most certainly do not believe that Indians ‘behave like thugs’.”
“The person or persons who made the above image is certainly a shameless ‘thug’, regardless of his race.”
Pua felt that the malicious fake tweet, was a vicious response to his description of those who had prevented licensed Indian traders from setting up their stalls, and those who disrupted his Press conference at the Deepavali Bazaar in Sungai Way, Petaling Jaya last week as “thugs”.
It had been previously reported that among those who disrupted Pua’s visit and Press conference were Kelana Jaya PKR deputy chief Saminathan Kitchen and the division’s secretary Murali Subramaniam.
Pua said the fake image was clearly designed to inflame racial sentiments against him and he had no idea who designed and spread the above image to defame him.
“However, it will not in any way stop me from carrying out my duties to serve my constituents and all Malaysians, regardless of race, religion or creed without fear or favour.”
