KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20, 2015:

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) today claimed that the Johor Football Association Royal Patron Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim’s statement that the governing body had failed to tackle bribery cases, was baseless.

FAM secretary-general Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said FAM had already set up the Integrity Committee since 2010 and had made it compulsory for every affiliate to set up such a committee in their respective states in 2013.

Hamidin said the committee was chaired by Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat and included Bukit Aman CID director Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh; Bukit Aman’s Secret Societies, Gambling and Vice Division principal assistant director Senior Asst Comm Datuk Roslee Chik, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s Datuk Shamsun Baharin Mohd Jamil and Datuk Azam Baki.

Hamidin said in a statement today that the committee was responsible for screening, investigating foreign and local players and officials involved in the M-League to ensure the bribery or match-fixing was not involved.

Yesterday, Tunku Ismail or better known as TMJ was quoted by Reuters, urging FIFA, the world governing body for football, to investigate FAM for failing to tackle bribery as well as hoarding broadcast revenues from the affiliates. It was reported that Tunku Ismail whose team Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) had won the Super League title for two consecutive seasons had claimed the FAM was culpable for the country’s slide to a worst-ever FIFA ranking of 171st after an embarrassing 0-10 defeat to the United Arab Emirates last month.

Hamidin said FAM had already taken steps and implemented programmes to improve aspects of administration and management, including financial management as well as measures to optimise commercial opportunities in line with FIFA’s Performance Programme.

He said the programme had been carried out by FAM for the past three years and that the auditors from FIFA had visited FAM a number of times to analyse the financial operating system.

“The auditors from FIFA were FIFA Performance Programme consultant Anter Issac; FIFA’s Win-Win Programme consultant Christophe Rousseau and FIFA Development Officer (ERP & FIFA Connect), Sujit Manjuran.

“The response from the auditors was very positive,” said Hamidin adding that FAM had also appointed internal and external auditors.
