KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19, 2015:
The motion on the Syariah Courts Act (Criminal Jurisdiction) 1965 will only be tabled in Parliament after court proceedings on the matter have been concluded.
PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said the date of the tabling would only be determined after the proceedings.
“We can only submit the motion to amend the law after the court process has been completed,
“When that is done, we will select a new date to submit the amendment bill to Parliament later on,” he said when met in Parliament today.
In June, four individuals had filed a court injunction to prevent Abdul Hadi from tabling the motion in Dewan Rakyat.
The individuals comprised Mansoor Saat, Azira Aziz, Hasbeemaputra Abu Bakar and Hazwany Jamaluddin.
Apart from Hadi, the individuals also named Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, Deputy Speakers Datuk Ismail Mohamed Said and Datuk Ronald Kiandee, and Dewan Rakyat secretary Datuk Roosme Hamzah as defendants.
Following the move, Abdul Hadi had filed an application for the court to dismiss the injunction.
