GEORGE TOWN, Oct 17, 2015:

Two Bangladeshi workers were tied up with wires by a group of robbers who carted away 300 bales of electric cables worth RM50,000 from a construction site in Bayan Lepas near here yesterday.

A police spokesman said in the 8.15am incident, the two contract workers were working in the store where the electric cables were kept.

“It is believed eight men armed with machetes, surprised the workers who were then tied up and blindfolded.

“The criminals ordered the victims to keep quiet if they did not want to be hurt before running off with the electric cables,” he said here today.

He said the two workers, in their 30s, were not harmed. They were rescued by other workers who later came to the site.

A police spokesman said following the incident, police had launched an operation to track down the cable robbers.
