KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16, 2015:
PAS has welcomed Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah’s move to join PKR and expressed confidence that he would be able to strengthen the Opposition.
“As a leader from the ruling government who thinks critically and has principles, I am confident that Datuk Saifuddin will be able to mobilise his energy with Opposition parties to right all the country’s weaknesses and problems that are burdening the rakyat,” said PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan in a statement today.
Takiyuddin congratulated the former Temerloh Member of Parliament, whom he called a long-time friend having known him since their days in Universiti Malaya, and wished him well in fighting for Malaysians.
Meanwhile, it is understood that the Islamist party is discouraging Saifuddin from contesting in the Temerloh parliamentary seat as it is currently held by PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan and instead urged Saifuddin to find a constituency that was more liberal and progressive.
Saifuddin’s jump to Umno was announced yesterday by PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
Regarding his move, Saifuddin said he had clear objectives in politics which were to fight for political change and institutional reforms, two aspects he believed were not achievable within Umno.
