KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15, 2015:
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, at the third Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Economies’ Chief Science Advisers and Equivalents meeting today, shared his hopes that a cure to Malaysia’s haze problem could be found.
He said Malaysia had suffered for 18 years due to the use slash-and-burn methods by its neighbours to clear land.
“I hope (international) science advisers can advise the (relevant) countries on how to solve the issue of slash-and-burn and how to prevent fires on peatland fires.
“Is it done on purpose or caused by climate change?” he asked when giving his keynote address.
Najib added that he encouraged for such advice to be presented at Apec and Asean meetings.
