KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10, 2015:
Former Umno lawyer Ahmad Shuaib Ismail said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin should resign as Umno deputy president as the latter was acting like the Opposition.
He accused the former Deputy Prime Minister of trying to take advantage of the public perception revolving around 1Malaysia Develoment Bhd (1MDB) to bring down Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
“Every problem regarding 1MDB is within his knowledge. However, he is acting as if he is not guilty and pointing the finger at Najib,” he said when contacted by The Rakyat Post.
Ahmad Shuaib says that as Umno deputy president, Muhyiddin must find a way to provide a clear explanation to the people and address the benefits pursued by 1MDB and not use the troubled investment firm to bash the nation’s number one.
The former Deputy Prime Minister, he said, should be Najib’s main supporter and help fix Umno.
“What has happened is exactly the opposite, as he does not play his part as Umno deputy president but instead wants to ruin Umno.”
Commenting on a statement Muhyiddin made last Thursday, Ahmad Shuaib said the former’s description of 1MDB as a debt ridden company was confusing, because as a Cabinet member, Muhyiddin was surely more in the know about the strategic investment company wholly owned by the government.
“He should explain to the people as well as the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal on what happened, including rationalisation plan sought by 1MDB. However, his latest statement is seen to be leaning towards politically motivated attacks and sabotage.”
Muhyiddin, he said, should just step down as the party’s number two and fight alongside Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed, who has become Najib’s chief critic.
“Let Umno be led by those who are loyal to the party. I, myself, resigned from all of my positions in order to speak freely. If I remained in in my position within Umno, I would not be free to speak out and now I am voicing my opinions only as an ordinary Umno member as well as a Malaysian citizen.
“If one still wants to hold on to positions and still criticise Umno leadership, then the individual will be labelled as only looking out for his own personal interest and not for the party or the people.”
Ahmad Shuaib said Muhyiddin’s actions were similar to ones taken by Dr. Mahathir, which he said could compromise the nation’s economic stability.
He added that Dr Mahathir had previously wronged the country and its people. However, his “sins” were forgotten as he managed to divert the blame to former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
“Mahathir was involved with numerous scandals during his leadership days and earned the title ‘Pharaoh’.
“Now he tries to hide them by blaming Datuk Seri Najib.
The government, Ahmad Shuaib, said should take action against Dr Mahathir for provoking and dividing the people.
“If he truly is fighting for the people, why his scandals like the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) and the Bumiputra Malaysia Finance (BMF) were not re-investigated?”
