KOTA KINABALU, Oct 9, 2015:
Illegal power connection in the state claimed another victim today, this time a 12-year-old boy after he was believed to have stepped on a live wire at Kampung Mangkalinau Arang, Batu Tiga, Sandakan.
His lifeless body, seen clutching his slippers, was discovered by villagers lying nearby a drain at 6.40pm. They immediately notified the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Department.
The victim’s identity is yet to be determined.
According to Sandakan police chief Assistant Commissioner Zabidi Md Zain, the victim, found clad in a red T-shirt and blue jeans, had no identification document on him.
“Investigations revealed that someone had illegally connected the electricity from a proper cable located 100 metres away.
“The Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) has confirmed it as illegal connection,” he said.
Zabidi said to date, no one has come forward to claim the body. He said police had classified it as a sudden death case as no foul play was suspected.
Just three months back, a fireman was killed after stepping on a live wire which was connected illegally.
The victim, Apolos Jeremos, and his team was responding to a 3pm distress call of a bush fire at Mile 7, Taman Kenari, on July 19.
He was found unconscious and rushed to the Duchess of Kent Hospital for treatment but succumbed to injuries two hours later.
