PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali described as ”malicious”, allegations of a plot to overthrow the party’s leadership.
“These are lies by an individual who is a bankrupt,” he said when asked to comment on allegations made by PKR member Badrul Hisham Shahrin recently.
Badrul Hisham, popularly known as Chegubard, had recently revealed a movement purportedly by a cartel headed by Azmin to overthrow PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail through a petition signed by 25 of the party’s central committee leaders.
However, Azmin denied the allegations and added that it was an issue that should not have been brought up in the media.
“I have no comments as certain issues discussed within the party need not be brought up to the media,” said Azmin, who is also the Selangor Menteri Besar, after a media conference at the launch of the Selangor Creative Digital Centre in i-City here today.
Of late, Chegubard revealed that there had been attempts of a coup d’etat on the PKR leadership to force the party’s central committee to recall their involvement in Pakatan Harapan (PH).
It was said that the attempts would be made through a petition signed by 25 PKR central committee members, a majority of whom were loyal to Azmin.
At the same time, Azmin also denied that PKR was facing an internal crisis, following the establishment of PH.
He made it clear that the issue of the petition was not a problem that could threaten the party’s position and it could be discussed mutually.
Azmin said this was a normal process as PKR was not a party like Umno as the former was a reformist party that discussed issues for the betterment of its members and the people.
“We are open to discussion in a democratic way. There is no split (in the party).
“We will discuss this later. We will discuss all political parties. Whoever is keen on overthrowing Umno, are welcome to discuss with us.”
This Sunday will see a meeting involving the PKR central committee to discuss the issue of PH’s establishment.
The issue was raised following a disagreement with several PKR members who claimed that the establishment of PH was made in haste.
