JOHOR BARU, Sept 23, 2015:
A 47-year-old woman was beaten, assaulted with a broomstick and stripped naked for failing to settle a RM2,000 debt owed to a licensed money lending agency in Taman Sri Tebrau here recently.
It was learnt that the victim, who is a small time trader, had accumulated debts of about RM7,000, including interest, for failing to settle the initial RM2,000 amount for the past three years.
The drama started at 2pm on Sept 15 when she met a representative of the licensed money lending agency in a car to settle her outstanding debts.
The victim was then blindfolded and bundled into the car and brought to the agency’s office.
Johor Baru Selatan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Sulaiman Salleh said the suspects, who included a woman, then assaulted the victim and stripped her naked.
“The suspects were said to have also threatened to distribute the nude photos of the victim after taking photos with a mobile phone,” he said at the Majidee police station here today.
Sulaiman said a police team from the district’s Criminal Investigation Department immediately acted based on a report received from the victim.
He said police arrested four male suspects, aged between 17 and 32, at the agency’s office in Taman Sri Tebrau.
“Investigators also seized eight mobile phones believed to have been used during the victim’s assault,” said Sulaiman, adding that all the suspects had also admitted to being present during the victim’s assault.
Sulaiman said police were investigating the case under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery.
