KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22, 2015:
Political leaders have been urged to put aside their beliefs and ideologies to ensure national security continues to be maintained.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said his ministry realised that issues of national security had been politicised by certain quarters.
“Put aside the differences of political beliefs, personal interests as well as cliques among us.
“We know issues of security are being politicised,” he said at the Institution of Defence and Security Conference held at Royal Chulan Hotel here.
Ahmad Zahid added that he was closely observing the actions of certain quarters, especially social media players, who tried to whip up racial sentiments.
The Deputy Prime Minister also explained that he was not giving any warnings, but hoped that social media players would abide by their code of ethics in the same way mainstream media had journalistic ethics.
“There are online portals playing with fire and we cannot allow any behaviour that can disrupt the stability and harmony among us.
“Action taken by the Home Ministry and Royal Malaysian Police is action that can be felt by all in efforts to overcome radicalism.”
