KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 16, 2015:
With the planned Red T-shirt rally expected to take place at Padang Merbok today, Umno Information chief Datuk Ahmad Maslan has just tweeted a picture of nothing but red in his official Twitter account.
In his Twitter account @ahmadmaslan, Ahmad tweeted “Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu dibenarkan oleh Polis ikut Akta Perhimpunan Aman. Sempena Hari Malaysia kita jaga keamanannya” (Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu is allowed by the police in accordance with the Peaceful Assembly Act. In conjunction with the Malaysia Day, let’s keep it peaceful).
At press time, it has been retweeted 28 times and marked favourite 10 times.
The tweet has elicited numerous responses from Malaysians including one by @SujEnthiran that reads “kalau ada apa2 masalah berlaku kat KL pasal perhimpunan tu, jgn plak kau delete twit ni hayun” (If anything happens in KL at the rally, don’t delete this tweet).
Another user @cell380 said sarcastically “@ahmadmaslan yg turun pasti ramai, x termasuk jerubu, botol kosong, sampah sarap, rumput juga anggota polis” (there would be a lot of people attending it, excluding haze, empty bottles, garbage, grass and also police officers).
Just five days ago, Ahmad denied any knowledge of a circular sent to Umno divisions requesting them to send 1,000 members each to the red T-shirt rally also known as Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu.
He said the party could not prevent its members or non-governmental organisations (NGOs) from proceeding with the rally as long as they followed the rules.
The planned rally today will see the protesters marching from Bukit Bintang to Padang Merbok.
The rally aimed at championing the Malays is organised to counter Bersih 4 held last month on Aug 29 and 30.
