GERIK, Sept 15, 2015:

A soldier pleaded guilty at the magistrate’s court here today to possession of printed materials on the Islamic State (IS) militant group.

Private Mohammad Rosdan Mohammad Khir, 24, of Mahang, Kulim, Kedah, and who is a member of the Border Regiment at Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah, made the guilty plea before magistrate A. Akhiruddin@Boy Acho, was not represented.

However, A. Akhiruddin could not sentence the accused, following the prosecution’s request for the case to be transferred to the Kuala Lumpur High Court as it was subjected to the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012.

Mohammad Rosdan was charged with possession of printed materials on IS, comprising 11 books, at the Gerik police station at about 10.20 am last Aug 19.

The books are Daulatul Islam Baaqiyah, Tentera Fisabilliah (bangkitlah wahai umat Islam), Bendera Hitam Lailahaillah End The Word Of Allah Is The Highest, Ajnad As-Syams, Keep Calm and Support Jihad, Bendera Hitam Kami Pembela Daulah Islam, Jihad Wa Harb Nozun El Taghout, Global Tawheed Working To Establish The Right Of Allah SWT, Jihad Jalan Kami Syahid Cita Cita Kami, Kami Berdiri Bersama Palestine and Daulah Islamiah-Alkhulafa’ a’la manhaj anna bawiyah.

The charge was made under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code, which carries an imprisonment for up to seven years or fine and the forfeiture of the seizure of the materials concerned, if found guilty.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Faridza Hamdan, who asked the court to set a mention date for the case to be transferred to the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

A. Akhiruddin then set Oct 13 for mention.
