KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 1, 2015
The Albukhary Foundation today denied its chairman Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Albukhary had issued an open letter to defend Prime Minister Datuk Seri Njaib Razak’s leadership.
The foundation said the article, which was widely circulated in the social media, had misled the public into believing that the tycoon had authored it.
The denial was in reference to an alleged blog posting by Syed Mokhtar entitled “Luahan Hati Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Bukhary Berkenaan Najib Razak”, which surfaced on Aug 29.
“We do not condone the act of impersonating Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar including any unlawful or unauthorized use of his name,” the foundation said in a statement today.
Syed Mokhtar is the founder of the Foundation and has served as the chairman since its inception in March 1996.
The foundation said it was a charitable organisation that worked towards a more equitable and tolerant world through social welfare, education and cultural initiatives that bridged the divide between the haves and have-nots and between the Muslim and non-Muslim worlds.
It said the chairman’s beliefs were grounded on the Muslim faith of Taqwa (submission to God) and Ehsan (compassion) to create an equitable order in society.
“He strongly prescribes to the values of hard work, discipline, honesty and humility. His commitment to society and nation building is unquestionable.
“As such, the foundation is apolitical and non-discriminatory.”
To avoid confusion over the matter, the foundation said its website was the sole official public medium for Syed Mokhtar.
