JOHOR BARU, Aug 27, 2015:
A suspected drug dealer with drugs and cash totalling nearly RM60,000 was caught by police during a routine crime prevention round in Taman Desaru Utama, Bandar Penawar in Kota Tinggi near here last night.
It was learnt that the 40-year-old suspect was found with cash totalling RM59,200 hidden in a container in the suspect’s sling bag during the 8.30pm operation.
A check on his Honda motorcycle also revealed small amounts of packed heroin and also syabu (crystal methamphetamine) hidden under the seat.
Earlier, the suspect had put up a struggle when the seven-man police team stopped him for checks in the commercial area of Taman Desaru Utama.
The team was shocked by the discovery and promptly arrested the suspect to be brought to the police station. Later, the district police anti-narcotics department was informed about the arrest.
A source familiar with the case said the suspect was believed to be a drug dealer specialising in the villages and also Felda schemes in the Bandar Penawar and Desaru areas.
The suspect was working as a machinery operator from nearby Pengerang, the source toldThe Rakyat Post today.
Based on initial investigations, the source said the money seized from him was believed to be proceeds from the sale of the illicit drugs.
“However, police are not dismissing the possibility that the suspect was also out to purchase additional drugs to be resold again.”
The suspect, who also tested positive for morphine, is now in custody of the Kota Tinggi district police pending further investigations.
